ABOUT IRVINE

During World War I, agriculture had grown very intensive, and by 1918, the Irvine Ranch produced 60,000 acres of lima beans. Two Marine Corps air bases were built on property sold to the government by The Irvine Company during World War II.

James Irvine, Jr. died in 1947 at the age of 80. Presidency of the company fell to his son Myford, who began opening small sections of the ranch to urban development. Myford died in 1959.

The University of California requested 1,000 acres from The Irvine Company in 1959. The company agreed, and the state took up the offer and bought an additional 500 acres. William Pereira, the university’s consulting architect, and Irvine Company planners devised a city plan for 50,000 people around the campus. The city’s planned expansion would take its current size and develop it into an urban center with a population of approximately 400,000 people. It is proposed to be one of the world’s biggest cities with more than two million inhabitants. Landmarks in the new city include a river park along Orange County’s largest natural lake, which will connect six county parks

On December 28, 1971, the residents of these towns decided to merge with a much larger city than the original Pereira plan had intended in order to safeguard the area’s tax base and control its future.

In May 2015, the population of Irvine was about 250,000 people, making it one of the top 75 to 80 most populous cities in the United States. The City’s area has expanded to 66 square miles at present. After 2035, when built out, the City is expected to have around 318,000 residents.

Irvine today and the future
In the early 1970s, the City of Irvine was still in its infancy. Irvine has more than 200,000 jobs and over 21,000 licensed businesses today. The City Council continues to support its public schools with more than $9.1 million in direct and in-kind assistance each year, the City Council has authorized a public-private partnership to create parkland on 688 acres of the Orange County Great Park, and businesses continue to make Irvine their home or choose to establish a long-term presence there.

The city of Irvine’s fame today didn’t happen by chance. It is the result of skilled planners, who were tasked with putting the plan into action. The Irvine City officials and staff continue to work hard every day to provide a high-quality environment for the city’s future.

The Irvine City Council makes plans using the City’s Strategic Business Plan and General Plan, which it uses to:

  • Irvine’s physical environment should be maintained and improved to prevent neighborhood deterioration.
  • Assure that a secure community is maintained by ensuring that there is the appropriate balance between public safety services and prevention efforts.
  • Encourage economic growth by attracting and retaining companies and sales tax revenue.
  • Promote effective government by ensuring that the City organization’s service delivery is flexible, market-based, and client-focused.

For more than 40 years, residents and businesses have flocked to the City of Irvine due to its reputation for maintaining one of the safest, planned, business-friendly cities in America.

PIPES and SEWERS

What’s causing a pool of water to build up in my yard?
When it comes to your home’s main sewer and water pipes, you rely on them to function correctly. Sewer lines transport waste products away from the house, while water lines supply water. Your home’s plumbing system, both water, and sewer, is connected to a variety of fixtures, fittings, and appliances. All of these can lead to serious difficulties. Sewer backups, blocked pipes, damaged pipes, as well as leaks are all examples of problems that may occur. We provide efficient solutions for all types of emergencies and minor issues at Kalka Plumbing, Heating, and Air in Irvine, Orange County, and adjacent areas.

Water Pipes
The materials used to make water pipes include copper, plastic PVC (polyvinyl chloride), Pex, polyethylene, and galvanized steel. They supply potable water to all rooms of your home for culinary usage in the kitchen, bathroom, laundry, and gardening. Water pipes in the walls frequently leak, owing to the exposed nature of these pipes and the joints, valves, and fittings present.

Water lines are pressurized and more prone to leaks. Leaks may be difficult to detect without a closer look in some situations. Low water pressure, water damage, higher bills, and a waste of natural resources can all result from leaks. Frozen pipes might be an issue in the colder portions of the United States.

Sewer Pipes
Many older houses have cast-iron sewage pipes that are prone to corrosion, fracture due to root penetration, and so on. Sewer pipes in newer homes are most commonly composed of plastic materials such as ABS (plastic) and polyethylene. To a sanitary sewer or septic tank system, they allow wastewater materials to flow. Gravity systems are common in residential sewage systems, where small slopes in the pipelines allow sewage to flow from one point to another. Pipes that are made of plastic or vinyl are more fragile than those constructed of steel, which means that they can break and leak. Leaks in your sewage can result in unpleasant smells and massive messes.

Drains
Drains are part of your home’s drainage system. They allow wastewater materials to flow out of the house and accordingly need to be clean so as not to contribute to clogging. Many homeowners experience blockages with their drains due to grease accumulation that results in a nasty build-up. A drain cleaning service is employed to clear these blockages and to keep your drains flowing smoothly.
