Located off Beach Boulevard, Huntington Central Park is a beautiful park ideal for a wide variety of family activities. It’s fit for the entire family, ranging from playgrounds to fishing and exercise courses. Open from 5:00 am to 10:00 pm, the 350-acre park located on Goldenwest Street is the largest city-owned park in Orange County, California. The development started in March of 1974, with it being dedicated on the 15th of July of the same year. With credits to its design going to architects Eckbo, Dean, Austin, and Williams.
The park’s grassy plains and plantation is ideal for biking and picnics. You can also use it for strolling, playing frisbee, and other family activities. The park also has a very well-equipped Adventure Playground, one of the only two in the entire county. With a 4$ entry fee, it is cheap and yet enjoyable for any child. The park also offers an amphitheater and bandstand for city-sponsored activities. An amazing 15-acre Disc Golf course is also present, the only one in Orange County. A functional riding club and equestrian center are also available for horse- lovers, with classes being taught from beginner, all the way to advanced levels. From a physical fitness perspective, the park has extensive jogging tracks, a dog park, and 18 outdoor gyms spread over 25 acres of land, known as ‘The World Trail’. The park also houses the Shipley Nature Center, an 18-acre enclosure divided by habitat ideal for bird watching, and housing at least 22 species of animal. Its Sports Complex is state renowned, with awards for its design and composition. It consists of eight softball fields, seven soccer fields, 4 turf fields, batting cages, and two playgrounds. Lastly, it holds the largest children’s library in western California.
The park also has no less than 3 amazing restaurants and cafes such as Kathy May’s Lakeview Cafe and Park Bench Cafe, with the latter even being pet friendly and having its own special pet menu.
The park has a strict time limit. It is open from 5 am to 10 pm. It enforces a no alcohol and/or smoking policy. Hence, banning everything from cigarettes to vapes. There is also a strict no camping policy, including a ban on bonfires, coal fires, or enclosed tents. There is also no tolerance for sound-amplifying devices for voice or music. Hazardous activities such as rugby, martial arts, fighting sports, archery, competitive shooting, and fireworks are also banned. Lastly, littering, vandalism, or gambling within park limits is also severely punishable.
The park rents out fields in its Sports Complex as well as the BBQ area for appropriate occasions.
So overall, Huntington Central Park is an amazing amenity with activities for all ages, which, along with its centralized location and cheap rates, make it an attraction well worth frequenting. If you’re planning a small get-together with friends or your families, the park might be a great place for you. Children love it, old people love it, and everyone loves it.
